TMI

Could say a lot and still be vague and mysterious, just need a means to have inside jokes to avoid traditional TMI.  Been going through old letters which are replies to something I sent. So confused on a number of levels, and its not intentional.

Gonna take a hiatus from FB. I need a smart phone to make such a more reasonable, time management wise. Thankfully, I can still post via Twitter... and crossover.

April was a weird month. I went 12 weeks without listening to the radio at 12:05, then April came and J was gone to let me listen to what I did before her leave of absence. Funny thing is that I first started listening to radio as J always talked about things she heard while pumping when she headed back after ML when B was born, but got annoyed after I became a 3 hours a day 5 days a week junky.

I've cut back to maybe 10% of what I used to do.  Maybe I can cut back on internet that much?

J said that VU sounded like emo when I played it the other week before she and kids headed out for ice cream.  VU is the bedrock of so much of the music I like... but I imagine a number of people feel the same way. I don't expect J ever to listen to VU out of the blue, but I would be less shocked if she started to listening WHIO while she had lunch, though I don't foresee the latter to occur anytime soon, again. I might be suspisious if she did, for I know she doesn't wanna talk to me about it.

Listening to Clash at the moment. Feeling very resolved. Just wish my mobile wasn't a minute contract, but I can't expect everyone to know my cheapness prefers calls to the home phone, solely but said purpose and its speakerphone allows for more freedom with hands... particularly with screaming babies needing bottles and changing.

April, Where did you go?

First of April was when I figured I needed to follow up a seemingly discontinued conversation from mid-March. My wrists and hands were feeling fine, I just hadn't had a reply. It was like my letter writing days of old, where I'd be waiting for each day's mail delivery for a reply, only to be disappointed when nothing came that day.

Snail Mail meant one chance a day, six days a week, while email could be anytime or any moment or whenever.

The 24/7 effect is like time standing still, if you are expecting something that is beyond your control.

The anxieties of today are acerbated by the expectation of change at a moment's notice.

Patience is gone and is replaced by frustration.

Being connected is a hindrance to progress towards things within one's control.

Does time management exist for a person with an obsessive personality like mine?

The mind cannot do two things at once, and multitasking is a delusion according academic studies at places like Stanford.

Anyways, to my surprise, I got a reply that first day of April to the effect that I was the guilty party. I am bothered for how did I never get an email?  Perhaps my sent email never get read, somehow?

If someone is reading my email and deleting stuff, I'd know since my email is copied via various forwarding processes that leaves a trace that only I and the NSA know it leaves.

I'm just gonna let the thought pass, and move forward. It is May, after all!

feeling old and meh

Periodically, I get the notion to be social. I used to keep track of people that I cared to have in my life, but they generally moved on and I didn't get around to having closure. Facebook is not something I enjoy. Too much sharing, for instance:  hysterectomies...
So disappointed with people in general. Am I that bad?
Boredom. Avoiding obsessive actions is hard.
Very annoyed, but I expected as much given my lack of immediate hope for meaning beyond purgatory that is my meh of the moment.

Inside Deep Throat

Netflix has some NR stuff. Just saw the documentary Inside Deep Throat. Odd to think a hardcore porn film could be accepted by the mainstream as mentionable, yet prosecuted at the same time. Clips of Bob Hope and others on late night being almost nonchalant... seems out of place given the prude behavior of censorship today regarding "wardrobe malfunctions."
The documentary made an interesting comment about our society that the concept behind the obscenity charges isn't even considered a sex act by many of today's teens and young adults.

In other realms, Facebook feels its unacceptable to post images of a full breast yet clips of decapitation are okay. I am not sure where I stand on obscenity, but I find the latter to be more obscene than anything depicted in the above mentioned documentary.

another nap

Just got up from a nap. Spent much of the morning cleaning out my inbox. I've several email accounts, but I forward most of it to one that I can't always access due to GMAIL not liking other GMAIL accounts associated with a certain tablet every so often. I had several months of email to delete or move which was somewhere between 1500 and 2k with over 800 being "unopen."

After J left, I read B a couple Pinkalicious easy readers before her bus came. She gets a marble for every two books read to her and a marble for doing other learning efforts. When she collects 10 marbles she can trade for a sheet of stickers. If she hoards 50 or so marbles she can trade for a figure/doll. She hasn't gotten passed 10 without going for stickers, yet.

After I got in from getting B on the bus, I continues to clean out the email until either Gmail or my Windows XP desktop decided to freeze up Mozilla on me. I tried to close FireFox and run defrag, but nothing happened. I went to K's room and used his Asus laptop and Windows 7 didn't have any issues getting down to the very end of my inbox. Just as I finished, my mobile rang. Work was calling. Seemed they wouldn't need me on Wednesday due to construction but I could make my hours up tonight.

Since J works late, I get Monday and Tuesday off. I can go in later than normal so I was fine with going in, I just needed a nap.

I napped from 2 until around 3:30. While I started this post, I got another call from work nixing the arrangement. Seems the circumstances changed where I could work tomorrow as normal since the construction was moved to tonight.

I may not care for my job in that it leaves a lot to be desired, but at least they care enough about me to let me get my hours in.

Now I have a headache as I away K and B's bus. Not sure what we'll do, but I plan to get them out as its to rain tonight and tomorrow.

No love for Amazon, but I side with them...

DISCLAIMER: Each day, I spend way too much time online. I've drastically cut my online time with the unofficial end of baseball season, but I still check my email, banking/credit cards/401(k), and blog. Before I do anything, I check to see what's going on in the world, and one place is where I start. It might not be the best for gathering information, but my purposes it's a starting point that spirals. The site is not self-contained and links to all sorts of places that are for the most part, reliable. If I ever mention an article, 90% of the time it originates from my perusing of the news aggregation site.

Amazon is being sued by its warehouse employees that claim that are unfairly unpaid for 20 minutes a day as they are searched throughout the day by security.

Frankly, I think their having a job should make them think twice about complaining, for the routine hasn't changed to make them feel put out from a baseline of expectation. Their wages technically embed their inconvenience to the regular searches.

Living by Wright-Patterson AFB, I'm aware of the long lines to get on the base. Those people aren't paid for their time in line waiting to go through the gate, are they?

Also, the searching is necessary for purposes of retarding theft. If you are avoiding being searched, then maybe you are planning to steal. Stealing is an offense for which one assumes to be fired, right?

One of the few times I will agree with Amazon. I imagine a lawyer came up with the suit and approached the plaintiffs and stirred up their angst in hope of getting a sympathetic judge and a huge payday from the EVIL ONLINE RETAIL BEHEMOTH.

Sunday, June 16 is Father's Day

Looking around the house, I'm disappointed in my lack of progress towards "resolutions."
I spend more time online than I should, so I'm thinking of taking a hiatus until Father's Day with regards interests beyond things related to email.
Tomorrow is the last day of school for K and B, so I plan to be busy with them throughout the summer.

tumblr and Yahoo!

Remember Geocities.com? I only used it after Yahoo! bought it and I opened a site in 2000 to complain about my experience with Philips Magnavox when my 5-disc stereo broke while under warranty and they replaced it with a 3-disc changer. Eventually, I created a site dedicated to Kurt Vonnegut when I found that nothing I wanted to see existed. Geocities went bye-bye a few years ago, but now Yahoo! owns Tumblr. I don't understand the acquisition.

What exactly does Yahoo! do? I only ask because I've had my primary email be Yahoo! for the last 16 years. I wonder if their brand has the vibe of email providers who are still around from that period. I cringe when I see aol addresses. I cringe when I see hotmail addresses. Wait... do those still exist, now that they switched to outlook?

I just noticed that hotmail and aol are both associated with "left wing news" organizations which seem to lack stories I find of interest. Then again, I vaguely recall a split with Microsoft and MSNBC and AOL still has their news separate from the Huffington Post. Yahoo! has their own news but they seem to pull from other places on their home domain.

Internet dinosaurs. I wonder if Twitter will ever fall into that category. The facebook fad hasn't met a myspace conclusion, but it's inevitable since old people have migrated there and it's not as cool. I personally found myspace to be better, but everyone ditched it.

Incidentally, I first heard of Tumblr when I was doing an image search to designate folder icons upon my desk top. I like to write stuff, and J has a file titled "D's Ramblings." Google image is cool to use for image searches, but prone to have porn come up in its results. I searched "ramblings." With that said, I originally thought Tumblr was a porn sight.

Why am I getting traffic from vk.com?

Just like Current.com, I am puzzled by vk.com showing in my stats. Both are spam related, but why me, I don't know. I just google things and look at the image results.

Why am I getting traffic from Current.com?

First, let me start by saying I didn't know "Current TV" had a web site. I seriously never thought of them as anything beyond the realm of an infomercial masquerading as "news" to get good seats at events... like the Razzies, GLAAD, NAMBLA, Darwin Awards, or anything in North Korea. Secondly, Joel Hyatt advertised his law practice 24/7. I always associated the Lionel Hutz character from The Simpsons with Joel Hyatt.

Finally, if "Current TV" is now Al Jazeera  USA, then what does this blog have to do with their site: current.com?

Doesn't Al Jazeera act as a media front for jihad groups thought to be linked to radical Islamic terrorism?

Not sure what I wrote about terrorism aside from my puzzlement over the FBI's botched investigation of mailed ricin.

Next blog

When is someone a friend? I ask this because I find myself about to say "a friend of mine," but I really don't have traditional friends in that I don't go out and meet with people or have people over the house, ever.

Anyways, I know someone from my days working at a certain place, and I still keep in touch through Email, LinkedIn and Facebook. She has a blog here, and I recall her saying on FB or Twitter that one of her guilty pleasures was hitting the "next blog" button.

I had never done such. I only worried about myself, so I was bit surprised by the number of "dead" blogs that are "next" to mine when doing the feature. Sometimes I come across one that was updated within the month but the author has written in a language I am forced to rely upon a translation site.

Regardless, I find myself reflecting upon my days of using Diaryland. I followed people and people followed me. No pictures or names were ever shared, and I find myself missing that anonymity.

Yard work

Was in the yard Saturday pulling weeds. Fired the lawn guy because of the drought and the fact I was unemployed, thus making the luxury of a treated lawn seem silly.
Anyways, there are weeds in the yard in addition to brown spots where the grass died. J wants the lawn treated, but I'd just assume not pay for it when we have other priorities.
When we went on vacation to Disney, we couldn't afford it, but a promise was made that we'd go on a vacation. I don't regret going to Florida for the memories will last a lifetime, unlike our lawn which will require regular maintenance just for aesthetics that depend upon elements beyond our control.
It would probably be more expensive to be my own lawn man beyond merely cutting the grass, but with videos online, it's something to consider as an alternative.

Murder in the old neighborhood

Just saw on twitter that a murder took place in the complex of our old apartment. We live a few miles from where we used to live. I had to look up the address on an old credit report to find the house number.
Regardless, doubt I'll go "bare naked ladies" and visit it.

I couldn't recall any addresses when I was last filling out a job application, which I thankfully could leave blank since I've lived in the same place the last so many years.

Most recent credit report didn't have the address listed, so I guess they only care about the last 10 years.

Where does time go?

Delete your account

Ever set up an account and regret it? (Remember Myspace? Me neither.) Well, I see that Kim Kommando is touting this site: deleteyouraccount.com

Over the years, I've created dozens of accounts that I no longer use. Because your website usage changes over time, you could have a lot of personal information floating around on sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, eBay, Facebook, and Google.
Are you still using all of these accounts? You can easily get rid of your unwanted or abandoned accounts with Delete Your Account. It has a large, searchable database of websites that require accounts.
Well, I was hoping to rid myself of sites for which I registered and forgot existed. Seems that's not their bag, for they have a disclaimer:

Note (2011/08/29): An article was recently published stating that you can search for your name on this site, and it will locate any accounts that you have. The information posted is incorrect. The search function is only to search for sites that you want to delete your account from, not for your name. If you would like to find what accounts you have across the web, you can try something like spokeo.com (completely unaffiliated with this site).

If only life were simple, then anyone could steal your identity then wipe you off the face of the Clutternet.

Surprised Google's stock hasn't collapsed

Currently on Youtube, you can see trailers for Innocence of Muslims.
Logic dictates that all things related to the film could be regarded as potential targets of certain wrath.
Will Google be targeted?

Cybertrash

Remember Myspace? Did you leave it formally, or did you just forget to logon indefinitely?
I read the headline about Lady Gaga having 71% of her Twitter followers being "fake accounts." When you are talking about millions of unattended accounts, it makes you wonder about cybertrash. It's in Twitter's best interest to have as many unique users as possible for valuation of the company and its marketing reach, but a deluge of redundant content makes searching the internet feel like the pre-Google days where everything  seems to be garbage when you use Google to look up a roommate you have lost track of 10 years ago.

I tell people if I can't find you on twitter or Facebook, then you may as well be dead. Google seems to index those two locales more than anything else.

Trivial thoughts. When I die, I will be abandoning at least 10 email accounts. Spam finds me, so I suppose that I  must exist in some plane of reality, regardless if I'm alive or not.

Is it possible to destroy the internet? What if an EMP  somehow wipes out all digital knowledge, would that throw the world back into the dark ages?

Sad to think that "57 channels and nothing on" meant something when 57 channels was a lot of channels. Imagine if there was no television from all the satellites becoming somehow fried. Scary, huh?

Support your public libraries, schools, etc...

Just saw an article updating the process in fixing something that seems to be the root of a lot of budget problems. Seems that bi-partisan support exists to help collection of states' sales tax on web purchases.
Not sure how anyone can argue that it's a tax increase by making enforcement simpler, but that's what the Amazons want to say to help their advantage over brick-n-mortar retailers.

Drawback about social media

There are a lot of journalists and social commentators that thrived in newsprint or radio but not on television because they were fugly.
Sure there were unattractive carny-like people on television like Katie Couric and Jamie Farr, but you have to offset the price of your stars with the cost of lower tier quality support to lower overhead.
Anyways, Twitter has allowed the fugly free reign of the internet. Where as before, you didn't have to think about what someone looked like when you read their reporting, now you have to see their avatar/profile pic since print media is dead and everything is easier to access online.
There needs to be program that blocks fugly images from being viewed upon a Twitter feed (not-so-fugly people that are safe to casually follow often retweet fuglies' tweets).
Okay, what is fugly? Well, it can be anything asymmetrical enough to merit a bag over it.
Growing up I thought that's what a "bag lady" was, someone too fugly to be seen in public that they had to have a bag over their head. I believed that some cultures had them wear burqas.
Funny thing is that a bag lady is thought to be homeless while a bag man is thought to be a criminal, yet it's considered profiling if you give casual attention to those wearing a burqa.

Way back machine

There was a time that I had way too much free time and created a webpage that attempted to collect the random sites that were dedicated to Kurt Vonnegut.
Funny how  I wouldn't do it that way now seeing that I understand copyright better. Found the old page on http://web.archive.org/ and I had to laugh since it says I had about 25K visitors since 2002! I no way recall it being visited that often, but what do I know?
I think Geocities.com went out of existence in 2009, so the sitemeter is stuck at 24,865.

Facebook Tuesday

Not sure where time goes, but I find myself only looking at Facebook on Tuesdays anymore. Funny how I went a while without using an account to using one again for work. When I lost that job, I facebooked to feel in touch with current events, and finally I'm weening myself off again with my being less of a recluse.

Having regular contact with the outside world has given me more reason to blog, and Facebook isn't a place for blogging.

Twitter has been a main staple of my Info Diet of late in that it's where I get my insight into current news regarding SPORTS that interest me. I had a feed that was following friends and worldly events, but that was too inane for my obsessive need for more info about a certain team that hasn't outright sucked this MLB season. I didn't use twitter much last year, but it's caught on amongst the sports reporter crowd for breaking news.

Tuesday used to be my favorite day of the week. Still might be my favorite, but it's not as defined as it once was. I will discuss that in more detail someday, but not now, for Tuesday is now for doing things I meant to do on Monday.
