When we got married, we got stuff from friends and families. One thing we got was a floor lamp and it died last year after being serviceable for eleven plus years. Our house lacks overhead lighting so we went floor lamp shopping, only to be shocked that there's a lot of cheap lamps out there. When I say cheap, I mean plastic shade.
Anyways, we settled on a lamp from Lowe's. Not sure if they only carried their Allen + Roth label, but we bought one for $74 that was more garish than I'd care, but it was simpler than the other models they had. When I assembled the lamp, it didn't thread correctly. The boxed instructions always say to call an 1-800 number before returning the item to the store, so I called the number and the dude said to exchange the lamp at the store. I exchanged the lamp and the newer one was not defective like its predecessor.
The lamp is of the three way variety, so you have to turn the knob to select a brightness. The knob has no grip to it so turning the thing isn't always easy. Well, tonight the knob kept spinning. It seems to be stripped, thus making the lamp a piece of junk since it's set to dim. Looked in the boxed directions and it says the lamp is under warranty for a year. Unfortunately, the lamp was purchased 2/2/13. I'm going to call the 800 number in the morning to see if there's a means of salvaging the lamp.
Ironically, I am going to Lowe's tomorrow for a different reason.
