Winning big, yet using closer in 9th to get last out?

Pirates. They're not a great team, but they win against NL teams that aren't any good, like the NY Mets, last night.

Being up, huge, Derek Shelton had scrub lefty pitch 8th and 9th innings. Not sure reasoning given lefty Dick Mountain started the first 7. Regardless, scrub lefty faltered in the 9th. Bednar comes in to get last out with 14-7 final. Together, they gave up 5 unearned runs.

Bednar was used due to not getting used during the As series while used during the entire Cardinals sweep. Meh. I get it, but now Bednar has been exposed to Mets. Using a closer sparingly seems best, in my opinion.

Pirates need more pitching. Depth has taken a blow with VV being shelved for season.

Okay, Hayes going 5 for 5 seems weird, but he was 12 for 24 in June going into the game? I don't know what to expect going forward. Keep playing him until he falters again. Unfortunately, managers these days give a blow to hot guys.
