thoughts on general world of Thursday

I read an article about deer being hunted in a park and said dead deer being fed to the homeless via charities. I am not sure the point of the story's existence. Is it anti-homeless? Is it anti-hunting? Almost get the impression that perhaps the tone would be more uplifting if the park services was hunting the homeless and feeding their carcasses to whatever eats meat in the park(maybe deer? You think I jest but I once saw a squirrel gnawing on a chicken bone on top of a "dumpster" outside Ohio Stadium. I thought nothing of it since the animal looked content, but squirrels aren't known for their chicken loving ways, are they?).

I am all for the hunting of deer. They are dangerous due to their stupid behavior with regards to automobiles. Harsh? Well, if you ever had a deer jump on your car and come within a yard of crushing you to death, then judge me then. Hyperbole? Maybe, but when you see the sort of damage a deer can do to a car that hits it, think of the dumb animal that jumps onto your car and crumples the hood before jumping off into the woods. Deer can get big and they think they can leap over cars.

Onto the sacking of the first female editor of the NYT. Supposedly she was annoyed that her male predecessor was paid more and she wanted equal pay. I don't care really, but I find the argument of the pay gap between men and women to be shallow in most cases. When looked in terms of black and white, the argument that there's inequality seems profoundly obvious, but anyone who says that men and women are equal is profoundly mistaken. All variables need to be considered before arguing what a fair wage should be.

I unloaded trailers at Target for the same wage that my female coworkers got for standing about the conveyor with coffee in one hand and gossip flying as fast as the boxes I lifted and pushed to them while deep inside a 54' trailer drenched in sweat. I imagine that if unloaders got paid more than the sorters drinking coffee, the women that never dreamed of being in the trailer would object and demand to raises. Doubt they'd want in the trailer to earn a pay differential, but if they did get in the trailer who is to say they could unload at the same pace. Time is money. More time spent unloading means money wasted.

On a separate thought: When was the last time a man gave birth? Seems wrong and unfair that same sex couples can't have babies together without a third party of the opposite sex being involved, right? When they do have children where one parent is blood related to their child, then one parent is not blood related. Seems wrong that one would have his/her dna go forward into potential future generations. Darwin be damned.
