When I read The Conundrum by David Owen, I found myself shaking my head more times than once. If you haven't read the book, then all you need to know is that efficient cars are evil and big cities are good.
One thing he doesn't mention about man's progress since harnessing fossil fuels is that the world's population has roughly increased by 700%. That's a lot of oxygen being breathed in and CO2 being exhaled on top of the cultivated land used for habitation and agriculture.
The book focuses mostly upon reducing the millions of cars and their lazy drivers, but I found myself thinking about how a self-righteous scientist could create a means to decimate the world's population to thus decrease CO2 emissions. This thought was brought back to my attention after watching a Scooby Doo Mystery Inc episode on DVD last week.
