Climate change is making kids fat

Twitter is my guilty pleasure. I saw  something funny on my feed: Evidently, some morning show like Good Morning America on a network like CBS ran a story about children today being 30% less fit than a generation ago.

I grew up in the 80s. My Atari and Nintendo Entertainment System were both upstairs in my shared bedroom. My house didn't have AC except for a window unit in our kitchen, so being home during the summer was rather uncomfortable most of the day.

I would go out all day on my bike without a helmet, and my folks didn't ask or care where I went. Most days, I went to a friend's house, and we'd then go play in the woods where an abandoned mine was.

I was 8 and played in mine. It was cool like a cave.

When I got older, we'd get 2-liter bottles, aluminum foil and toilet cleaner, pedal across state lines, and find a trash can.  Then we'd go back across the river and wait a few minutes for a "boom," then play basketball the rest of day.

I was horrible at basketball, but there wasn't much else to do. Sure I could have gone to the pool, but I really don't like swimming. I eventually got better at basketball, but I wasn't never good.

Anyways, kids used to be outside because being inside wasn't really a great option like it is today.

I have an HVAC, so the house is comfortable year round for the kids. They have various Play Stations, Nintendo Switch, Tablets, PCs, and personal cell phones.

My kids play Minecraft on their computers. I played in actual mines.

Climate change has nothing to do with kids being 30% less healthy than my generation, as far as I am concerned.
