If you have a Discover Card or a Chase Freedom Card, you are well aware of quarterly 5% cashback bonus categories.
They change and you can't choose them as side from activating them. Peeves me off when they have 5% cashback on gas, when it's standard with my Sam's Club credit card.
US Bank Card also has 5% cashback bonus but you get to choose which category each quarter you want and they're quality categories from which to choose. I usually use the Mobile Phones, Internet Cable, or the Utilities depending on Chase and Discover's options.
Amex doesn't have 5% cashback categories, but American Express does have random deals that make up for it.
I've Bank of America and Wells Fargo cards have deals and cashback that are better than default 1% of other cards.
I have a balance on 8 DIFFERENT cards that I payoff each month... my credit score takes ding from having so many cards in active use. It was supposedly 849 at one point, but is in 823 ballpark at the moment. The cashback earned is worth the ding, for I am on pace to get $2,000 back for the year.
I have a spreadsheet which tracks all of my debt from month to month along with the cashback I've received. I don't have the weird deals offered added to the totals, so I am underestimating my Cashback probably. Some are trivial, but they can add up.
