I've probably mentioned the various people on my street before but not enough to relay any interaction. One to the north likes to mow her lawn to the point of obsession, one to the south is a recluse with a home aid I've not seen in maybe seven years. Three neighbors to the west are people I wouldn't know if I saw them outside of their yards. The one directly behind us we call woodman because there are logs throughout his fence line to block his dogs Ricky and Kevin from escaping. I'm not a dog person so I don't know Ricky and Kevin's breed but they're big, black and bark at other dogs. They used to bark at us but they ceased doing that when the cops spoke to Mr and Mrs woodman a few years back. To the south of woodman are the S's. I know their name from the baseballs they marked as theirs that landed in our yard over the years. S's aren't noticeable aside from the fact they use a riding mower and have a canoe next to their shed. To the north of woodman is the pool people who have used said pool maybe twice in the five years they have lived there. They are loud people.
Across the street from us are the neighbors I'd recognize elsewhere. Never spoke to one family of the five closest of those houses. We call them the renters. They have been there a while. Dude had a different woman friend back in the day for a while then he was alone awhile and now he's with someone at least 3 years since they have 2 kids together. Maybe Mr. renter has been there 5 years? They are our strangest neighbors for a variety of reasons, but they keep to themselves. Mrs. Renter came over as we were in the driveway on Sunday with a pile of clothes she fished out of her car's trunk saying she was gonna donate them but thought they'd look good on our baby. J received the pile graciously and promptly placed in the garage atop the trashcan. They smelled like smoke and needed cleaned. I got around to washing them today, but I felt nauseous opening the washer so I ran the load again.
Am I a bad person for wondering how anyone in their right mind smokes enough to make everything they're near gross?
I wonder if people thought that way of my folks back when I was a kid. They smoked a couple packs each and never went outside to do so.
