Reflecting upon Tax Day 2013

There was a happening in Boston which gives me pause with regards to living in a large city or being in a large crowd. Sad, but there's places in the world that seem to have explosions regularly. With all the news about the need for Gun Control, you'd expect we'd need to stay indoors all the time due to the war zone outside. Gun violence seems mostly limited to liquor stores, domestic disputes, botched burglaries, and anyplace Chicago with the sporadic mall/theater/school shooting that grab the most headlines. Now there will be fear of trash cans and marathons.

The saying goes there are only two certainties in life: Death and Taxes

I got a nice Federal Refund, a minor State Refund, and owed for City. Federal 1040 has "loopholes" galore which make the others less fun to complete.  I haven't had to pay anything towards federal 1040 since 2006, which means we're "poor." I hope to pay federal taxes again, but I don't see making enough $ to do so anytime soon. Being cynical gives me a refrain from getting burnt out on the seemingly endless treadmill of failure I've endured with regards to regular gainful employment. Big picture: I am lucky to have the things I have and I appreciate what I have since there's less clutter in my life than a more prosperous self would have.
