Okay, I was up last night until my normal time, and I thought it would cool to wake up at 8 and be productive on a Saturday. I awoke moments before 8 thinking it was later, since the light from outside was brighter than other mornings. I didn't think about going back to sleep, but rather, I drank a cup of coffee and got outside to shovel snow. I was the first up.
Finished shoveling and warming cars by 9, then I ate something and got sucked it the blackhole known as the internet. J and I had plans to run around today, but I had to go feed the cat I'm watching.
When I got back from watching the cat, I took my shower and felt worse. Between my head and my back I was not in the greatest mood, but J talked me into going to Steak'n Shake. We had our normal waitress, so order was in and out quickly. Kids normally eat free on weekends, so I generally use coupons for free drink and reduced price for chicken fingers. I didn't use either coupon for the bill came to $8.54. Our waitress didn't charge us drinks. She's been known to do that when it's not happy hour, but it's always a pleasant surprise. We generally tip well. The cashier exclaimed the amount I tipped and asked if she could wait on us next time. I don't care for her, so I hope not.
We then went to Half Price Books with about 60lbs of books that we went through last week as being unwanted. They offered us $25 and it went towards our purchases. We were there a weeks or so ago with half as many things and got $25. It's not like the books were doing anything collecting dust, so $25 is nothing to reject.
On the way back towards home, we stopped at MattressFirm to look at beds. We got a flier for their sale but a guy I know said he could get us a better deal. Sure enough, we got decent bed for a decent price that will be delivered within 48 hours.
Something that you will not find written in Living Well in a Down Economy for Dummies by Tracy L. Barr is that knowing people can lead to deeper discounts than cutting coupons.
