When Bill Clinton was re-elected in 1996, he had a Senate and House that were hostile and pursued impeachment against him. Flimsy charge regarding a blue dress, but it was an impeachable offense.
Imagine if Bill Clinton was ousted from office in 1999. Al Gore would have become president and be eligible for two additional terms.
The initial tech bubble burst during the last year of Clinton's term, so alternate history would have the same for Gore. Clinton was popular unlike Nixon, so Gore probably wouldn't have had the same issues that Ford had.
Gore would have a record to run against GWB, and the race wouldn't be as close as it was.
Just a passing reflection.
