Sidetracked

Though I enjoy being with my wife and kids, I do not care to grocery shop with them. I don't like going shopping, but I rather do it as I'm the least compulsive shopper alive and It gives me a better idea of what to prepare throughout the week. Besides, I need time to wander about by myself, and I like doing so while at the grocery store.
I have been recently in touch with someone from my hometown that happens to live walking distance from my most preferred grocery store. Today, it happened he'd be doing landscaping out front of his house around the time I was heading back from groceries, so I stopped by. I haven't seen the guy in 18 years, but there are things we have in common that others around here don't understand. He's traveled more than I have since he's in sales and has served overseas, but we're both from the same small town where everyone knows everyone. I have no intention to ever go back to said town, but it's nice to know a part of it is close. Not sure when I'll get a chance to catch up with him again, but at least I did today.
