Like most people, I have a cell phone. I've had the same provider, Cincinnati Bell Wireless for 9 years.
Originally, I went with them because they didn't require a contract, and they had a plan that made sense for my budget. I remember getting the phone like yesterday. I had a new part time job and would be commuting weekends. Free nights/weekends and 250 anytime minutes for $29.99. The free phone was no frills.
Eventually it made sense to have a cell phone for my wife since she was running into traffic a lot and I never knew when she'd be home for dinner. We had the same plan for her phone, since it was for emergencies.
Only once did either of us ever go over our allotted minutes, but the occasion was due to weird circumstances.
Our plan changed a few years later so that we were bundled onto a family plan thus sharing 500 monthly minutes. It saved us over $10 a month. We also got mobile to mobile free, so we could use the phones for casual conversations during "peak" hours. When we most recently added texting to our plan, we were still paying less than what we did nine years ago.
If I could re-pick my career path it would be in the actuary sciences. I say this because I like crunching numbers and such with regards to saving money. I evaluate every household expense regularly and change providers for various services, accordingly. I have yet to find a better phone plan, so I'd be more than happy to refer anyone to CBW to get $100.
Only problem I see is that people have love/hate relationships with their phone carriers, and I don't want to be part of a love/hate triangle.
